The Celtic Section together with the Embassy of Ireland will organise a screening of the film Black '47, followed by a panel discussion with Prof Dag Blanck, Dr Andrew Newby & Ola Larsmo, acclaimed Swedish author. Attendance is free.
Black '47 is the first ever film to be set during the Irish Famine of the 1840s, telling the story of an Irish ranger who abandons his post as a British army solider to reunite with and avenge his family eho like the rest of Ireland have been devastated by this tragic event in the country's history.
The panel discussion will focus on the irish famine in the context of similar tragedies both in Sweden and Finland.
